Paulo Fonseca is still the top of Milan’s list in their search for a new head coach, but talks have also been opened with World Cup winner Lionel Scaloni, reports detail.

The Rossoneri’s coaching search is continuing to rumble on without much result, leaving the fans frustrated and confused as Stefano Pioli prepares to take on his final two matches in charge, ready to end a five-year spell at the helm.

Lille’s Fonseca has now emerged as the leading candidate for the Milan job, surpassing competition from Sergio Conceicao, Mark van Bommel, Julen Lopetegui and more, but no final decision has been made yet, leaving things unclear heading into the summer break.

Milan contact Scaloni

Page 14 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan have been in contact with the agents of Argentina coach Scaloni, interested in the idea of appointing the 2022 World Cup winner. No face-to-face meeting has been held yet and he’ll be away at the Copa America until July 14th.

Whilst Fonseca is still top of the list, the Rossoneri are open to other candidates including Marcelo Gallardo and Graham Potter. Not in consideration are Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri, neither considered in line with the project in the Lombardy capital.
