Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels receiving high praise in NFL rookie camp

“When you talk to people in Washington privately, they say, ‘We got ourselves a dude. Finally,’ after the carousel spinning of this position for so many years, but there’s talk about how in rookie minicamp the ball barely touched the ground – if at all – because of all the completions. The quick arm release has really stood out; he’s a compact thrower. There’s a good feeling right now – they’ve got to play the games of course – but high praise so far for Jayden Daniels.”

The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner had himself an electric senior year, showing incredible growth in a very short period of time. After totaling just 3,798 total yards and 28 touchdowns in his first season in Baton Rouge, he truly outdid himself in his final season of college football, totaling 4,946 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Now, as we quickly approach the start of his NFL career, many had concerns that his increased production came in large part thanks to his elite wide receiver core, but it appears that he might be proving his haters wrong earlier than anticipated.

While he’ll likely still need to compete for the starting quarterback spot throughout the summer, it’s hard to imagine the Commanders would have drafted Daniels No. 2 overall if they weren’t confident in his ability to come in and make an immediate impact for the franchise. With that said, he’ll be competing against several other capable passers including veteran – and fellow Heisman Trophy winner – Marcus Mariota as well as rookie Sam Hartman.

Washington will get the 2024 NFL preseason started on August 17 in Miami against the Dolphins at 6:00 p.m. CST. Until then, don’t be surprised to hear plenty more about Daniels as he looks to take control of his team and eventually land the starting quarterback position.
