Wednesday has not been the best day for the Cleveland Guardians on the injury front.

First, they learned that they'll be without Sam Hentges for at least a few weeks as he's dealing with shoulder inflammation. Next, they got an update on how one of their top outfield prospects is doing after suffering a wrist injury.

In the bottom of the second inning of Tuesday's game, George Valera fouled a ball back and immediately grabbed his wrist, and then left the game. He was initially diagnosed with "right wrist discomfort" which is very vague.

Terry Francona gave an update on how Valera is doing after sustaining the injury. He said:

“That was the wrist that had the surgery,” said Francona. “So, they don’t really know if that’s part of it. It’s hard to imagine that somehow not affecting it. [The team’s medical staff is] going to give him a couple of days to see how it reacts to them treating it. And then, if it’s getting better, good. If not, then they will look into maybe getting an image. But they don’t want to rush into that.”

The surgery that Tito is referring to is an injury that took place back in 2018. Valera finally got surgery on the wrist over the off-season.

It appears there is some short-term good news and some long-term bad news though. Short-term, it appears Valera will only be day-to-day after this specific incident. However, this injury and surgery took place almost four years ago now. It is a little worrisome that it may still be affecting him.
